COVID-19 Testing

We are happy to announce that we will now be able to provide patients with referrals for COVID-19 testing. We encourage you to reach out at (203)418-7745 or email at [email protected] if you would like testing, and we will be happy to provide you with a doctor’s referral to expedite the testing process.

There are rising concerns of potentially unreliable serological antibody tests available through specialty labs. The FDA now requires that these tests be authorized to remain available on the market.

Quest Labs has always been a reliable source for lab work, and at the peak of the COVID-19 crisis, Quest lab services accounted for nearly 50% of all COVID-19 testing across the United States. Because of these reasons, we feel it is best to use Quest Diagnostics as our COVID-19 testing resource.

Which test is best for me?

There are two main types of tests for coronavirus (COVID-19):
Serological (Antibody) and Molecular (PCR)

If you believe you had previous exposure to COVID-19 and want to check for antibodies to the virus, the COVID-19 antibody testing is the best option for you. This is a blood test which can be drawn at any Quest Labs patient service center.

If you are currently symptomatic and believe you may have an active COVID-19 infection, the COVID-19 PCR testing is the best option for you. This is a swab test that is safely performed at convenient drive-up centers throughout the state of Connecticut.

COVID-19 Antibody (Serological) Testing

This test will identify individuals who may have been previously exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and may have developed an immune response to the virus. Antibodies developed by the body in response to a viral infection may provide potential immunity against future infection.

Where to go for testing

These antibodies are tested using a blood sample which can be drawn at any Quest Labs location. Once you have received a referral from us for the antibody testing, you’ll be able to go to any Quest patient service center for a blood draw.

Cost

Most insurances will cover this test in full. If for any reason your insurance does not cover COVID-19 antibody testing, or you do not have health insurance, the out of pocket cost for this test is $55.

COVID-19 PCR (Molecular) Testing

This is available to test symptomatic patients who think they may have an active COVID-19 infection. Through qualitative multi-target molecular diagnostics, this testing option helps to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2.

Where to go for testing

Supplies for COVID-19 PCR testing are limited, and we are not equipped to do in-office COVID-19 PCR testing. If you have symptoms and would like a test, we will be happy to provide you with a referral to have testing done through Hartford HealthCare. Hartford Healthcare offers drive-up testing centers at convenient locations throughout Connecticut. This service allows anyone to be tested safely, without leaving their vehicles.
